Dear [salutation],This week, I recognized the heroic actions of Petty Officer First Class Charles Jackson, who rescued fifteen of his fellow sailors by helping them into a life-raft, tying the boat to himself, and swimming through shark-infested waters to safety. For his bravery and courage, French deserves to be recognized by the Navy. While French received a letter of commendation from the Navy, I have asked the U.S. Navy to review French’s case to give him and his family the honor and recognition that is overdue. In addition to asking the Navy to review his case to potentially award French with a medal, I have also proposed to legislation the naming of Omaha’s Benson area Post Office after French. I spoke about it on the floor this week:

Registration is now open for the Congressional App Challenge! 

 

The Congressional App Challenge is for all middle and high school students living in or attending school in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District. Participating students will develop a unique software application, or “app”, for mobile, tablet, web, or any other computer-based platform. Winners are invited to attend a recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C., and possibly receive prizes. 

To register for the Congressional App Challenge, student can visit the Congressional App Challenge website (www.CongressionalAppChallenge.us) to create either a team or individual account.
