Dear [salutation],
Apparently…it’s still Thursday according to Speaker Pelosi. That’s right; we are in recess until it is called. Why? Because the Speaker is letting Progressive Democrats run the agenda and not allow us to vote on a bipartisan $1.2 trillion hard infrastructure bill, that is overwhelmingly supported by a majority of Americans—and nearly 70% here in the 2nd District.
So why don’t they want us to vote on a hard infrastructure bill that will repair our roads, bridges, and seaports and increase access to broadband? Because it doesn’t include their cradle-to-grave wish list of government-funded programs. Yes, I’m talking about universal pre-k, free community college, Green New Deal initiatives and others that have zero to do with infrastructure. Here’s an idea…CUT TAXES! Let people keep more of their own money and select what government-free childcare they want, what government-free education they want, and so much more.
Plus, the house just passed legislation eliminating the debt ceiling through December 2022, with no limit. I voted against it because there was no dollar amount. It allowed unlimited spending for over a year. Who can even do that at home?
Some other items you may have missed:
- Democrat leadership blocked a motion (view video here) to keep the IRS from spying on your bank account so they can monitor every transaction you make over $600…this won’t affect “the rich” as they claim. It will affect middle and low-income people.
- Democrat leadership again blocked consideration of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ (IA-02) legislation, the REACT Act (H.R. 1897), to require a negative COVID test before any undocumented immigrant is released from custody.
Finally, we held a hearing in the House Armed Services Committee to hear from Secretary Austin, General Milley, and General McKenzie’s regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan. They say it was recommended to the President that he keep at least 2500 troops there…and he told ABC that ‘he didn’t recall that.’
