Committees and Caucuses
In the current 115th Congress, Don serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, House Committee on Armed Services, and the House Committee on Small Business:
The House Agriculture Committee has general jurisdiction over federal agriculture policy including agriculture, forestry, nutrition, water conservation, and other agriculture-related fields. The Committee can recommend funding appropriations for various governmental agencies, programs, and activities, as defined by House rules. I currently serve on the following subcommittees:
- Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research
- Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management
The House Armed Services Committee is responsible for policy related to defense policy generally; ongoing military operations; the organization and reform of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy; counter-drug programs; acquisition and industrial base policy; technology transfer and export controls; joint interoperability; the Cooperative Threat Reduction program; Department of Energy nonproliferation programs; and detainee affairs and policy. I currently serve on the following subcommittees:
The House Small Business Committee oversees policy and legislation related to small business financial aid, regulatory flexibility, and paperwork reduction as well as oversight and legislative authority over the Small Business Administration and its program. I currently serve on the following subcommittees:
- Subcommittee on Agriculture, Energy and Trade
- Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations
What is a Caucus?
A caucus is an organization of Members of Congress interested in a particular issue or set of issues. Caucuses sponsor educational activities, such as briefings on timely topics or pending legislation, and sometimes encourage legislative action that will advance their members’ common goals.
