Bacon Offers Comments Following City Press Conference
Washington,
May 31, 2020
Omaha, Neb. – Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) offered the following comments after the press conference hosted by Mayor Stothert, Governor Ricketts, and area law enforcement: “I pray for the safety and healing for those who have suffered from racial inequality, those who are speaking against it, those hurt from violence, those who have suffered from looting and vandalism, and those who are protecting us. And I thank our law enforcement for the professionalism they have shown. “I always support our Constitutional right to protest, but violence and vandalism cannot be tolerated. A small minority have tried to hijack what is a just anger at the death of George Floyd with violence and vandalism. “In order to maintain the safety of our community I support Governor Ricketts’ and Mayor Stothert’s decisions to activate the Nebraska National Guard and the initiation of a curfew. I talked to many residents and businesses owners today and they are scared of the violence they saw last night. “Our community deserves and needs civil discourse not civil unrest! We are all fellow citizens and we want peace and a country that lives up to equality under the law.” ### |
