BACON VOTES AGAINST CENSURE, WARNS FUTURE POLITICAL GRIDLOCK
Washington,
November 17, 2021
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) today released the following statement after voting against H. Res. 789, Censuring and Committee Removal of Representative Paul Gosar: “Going back to 1789, the majority in the House has never kicked members of the minority off of committees—and Speaker Pelosi has made history by doing it four times this year. I denounce all forms of threats, violence, or perceived violence against Members, no matter the party. I could’ve voted to censure but kicking people off their committee sets a terrible precedent that will come back to haunt the Democrats in 2023. This new precedence will become the normal, will damage the institution, and will exacerbate the hyper-partisan dysfunction in Washington. There is already a process in place for these instances and that is to refer it to the House Ethics Committee. They should review the case and determine the proper consequences.” ### |
