BACON VOTES TO SUSPEND RUSSIAN ENERGY IMPORTS TO THE U.S.

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) yesterday voted in favor of H.R. 6968, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act, which would prohibit the importation of energy products of the Russian Federation to the United States.

This legislation also urges cooperation from the World Trade Organization (WTO) to condemn Russia’s actions against Ukraine; encourages other WTO members to suspend trade concession to the Russian Federation; and reauthorizes sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act regarding human rights violations.

“Buying Russian gas props up the thug Putin and his barbaric, unprovoked war on Ukraine. This also highlights need for American energy independence. It is time we increase our energy production here at home,” said Bacon. “This is vital to our national security and makes us a global leader in oil, strengthens our economy, and creates great jobs. I urge the other WTO members to join in this effort and show Russia that they will not win this fight. They need to face the consequences for their criminal actions.”
