OMAHA, NE – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) released the following statement following President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

“As a member of the bi-partisan House Climate Solutions Caucus, I take a keen interest in ways we can be responsible stewards of our environment to ensure we leave a better world for future generations.  It is unfortunate the previous administration signed the deal without Congressional concurrence and it's critical any future agreements like this be properly vetted and approved through the Congressional process.  We should have kept a seat at the table to advocate our interests and fix the problems with the current agreement that put us at an economic disadvantage with other countries.  Regardless, I am confident our nation will continue to pursue more environmentally friendly energy solutions despite our withdrawal from the Paris Agreement.  For example, Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) estimates that approximately 40% of its energy generation is carbon-free and reports that at least 30% of their power comes from wind and is increasing every year.  Further, OPPD’s decisions to convert some of their coal operations to natural gas, promote greater energy efficiency, and implement other positive measures, reflect how Nebraskans are committed and will continue to pursue a cleaner environment.”
