Bacon Named to House Armed Services Committee, Will Lead Special Panel

Washington – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) was announced today as a returning member of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) for the 118th Congress.  Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL) also announced his intent to establish a special panel on the committee focused on military quality of life which will be led by Bacon, who has previously brought attention to serious recruiting and retention shortfalls that need a full court press fix.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to again serve on the House Armed Services Committee. As a member of the new House majority, I look forward to working with my colleagues to comprehensively transform the programs that underpin the strength and resilience of the All-Volunteer Force.  Our people are the foundation of America’s military power, and we need to ensure our servicemembers and families have the support they need to do what the country has asked of them,” said Rep. Bacon.

Bacon served for nearly 30 years on active duty and has first-hand knowledge of the issues under the Committee’s jurisdiction.

“I am excited to welcome General Bacon back to the House Armed Services Committee this Congress. His distinguished military service and deep national security experience make him one of the most important voices on national defense in Congress.  His extensive experience as a military commander makes him the perfect choice to spearhead the committee’s efforts to modernize and improve the quality of life for servicemembers and their families,” said HASC Chairman Rogers.

The House Armed Services Committee has oversight over the United States Department of Defense and the national security functions of the Department of Energy.
