BACON BILL TO HONOR PETTY OFFICER FRENCH PASSES HOUSE WITH VOICE VOTE
Washington,
February 1, 2022
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) today announced his bill, H.R. 4168, passed the House with a voice vote. This legislation would name the U.S. Post Office in Omaha’s Benson area, 6223 Maple St., after Petty Officer First Class Charles Jackson French, a World War II hero with ties to Omaha, who rescued fifteen of his injured shipmates by swimming for hours through shark-infested waters off the coast of the Guadalcanal. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) introduced the legislation in the Senate. “I am pleased that the House passed my bill honoring Petty Officer French for his selfless valor and service to our country,” said Bacon. “This recognition is long overdue, and I look forward to getting this passed in the Senate.” In June, Rep. Bacon delivered a floor speech in support of his bill. You can watch it here. ### |
