Rep. Bacon Named to House Armed Services Committee

USAF Ret. Brig. Gen. Bring Wealth of Experience

Today, Representative Don Bacon (NE-02) was named to the House Armed Services Committee for the 115th Congress. Representative Bacon’s military experience, serving nearly 30 years and retiring as a Brigadier General in the Unites States Air Force will prove to be valuable experience and insight that will benefit the Second Congressional District and Nebraska.

Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (TX-13) said, “I look forward to working with Congressman Bacon to rebuild America’s Military and restore readiness to the Joint Force.  As a retired Air Force Brigadier General and combat veteran, Congressman Bacon knows first-hand the challenges faced by our men and women in uniform and is well-prepared to assist the Committee in ensuring our Armed Forces have what they need to prevail in every domain and against any threat.”

"I am honored to have been selected to serve on the Armed Services Committee and am mindful of the responsibility it entails," Rep. Don Bacon said. "The Omaha-metro is home to Offutt AFB, one of the area’s top employer and thousands of veterans and active duty service members. The men and women who serve our nation in the military deserve the full support and backing of Congress and of the country. That means making sure our troops have the supplies, tools and funding necessary to stay safe and defeat the enemy, and at home it means standing strong against those who wish to trample our Constitutional rights.  Providing the needed support will be my top priority.”

Bacon joined the U.S. Air Force in 1985, retiring in 2015 as a Brigadier General.  His fields of service included the intelligence, electronic warfare, reconnaissance and public affairs career fields. He completed 16 assignments throughout the world.  He had commanded both home and abroad, at Ramstein Air Base in Germany and Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska at the wing level.  He also commanded one group, one squadron, and one expeditionary squadron.  He has deployed four times to the Middle East.

Representative Bacon has earned the Distinguished Service Medal, two Legion of Merits, and two Bronze Stars. He was selected as Europe’s top Air Force Wing Commander, along with the Congressman’s wife, Angie, as commander’s spouse in 2009. Representative Bacon is a distinguished graduate in his Air and Command Staff College, Navigator School and Intelligence School.

The House Armed Services Committee’s oversight responsibilities include the breadth of operations of the Department of Defense as well as the national security functions of the Department of Energy and related areas.
