Bacon Ranked Top Politician by Seeking Common Ground

Omaha, Neb. – Scoring a 104 out of 110 by the Common Ground Committee, Inc (CGC), Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) is ranked first by the non-partisan, citizen-led organization devoted to improving public discourse in politics. Bacon, the number one elected official in America, received the highest score nationwide. This is the second time in a row that CGC has graded Bacon as the highest-ranking member.

The CGC created the Scorecard to evaluate the degree to which elected public officials and candidates for office seek points of consensus on social and political issues through listening and productive conversation, ranking politicians up to a maximum of 110 points, using aggregated data from many sources including the Lugar IndexGovTrack, the Bipartisan Policy Center and others. The Scorecard is a tool for Americans to show which lawmakers are most dedicated to working across the aisle in solving the issues that matter to their constituents by finding common ground and making bipartisan progress.

“Being bipartisan does not mean we compromise our values or the promises we made to our constituents. It means that we find areas where we agree and build on that,” said Bacon. “Most issues like inflation, health care, foster care, and national security do not care if you have an ‘R’ or ‘D’ behind your name. Congress needs to lead with civility, strength, and common ground solutions, not partisanship and an ‘all or nothing’ philosophy. If we don’t lead that way, we will fail as a country, and I refuse to let that happen.”

In February, Reps. Bacon and Schrader (OR-05), members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, participated in Common Ground’s podcast to discuss working across the aisle to create and pass bipartisan legislation on behalf of the American people. Listen to the podcast here.
