Following the President’s address to a joint session of Congress, Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) made the following statement:
“Tonight President Donald Trump brought together the country by condemning the twin evils of racism and anti-Semitism. The President also made a strong commitment to the defeat of ISIS, the strengthening of the NATO alliance, and he reaffirmed our support to one of our closest allies: the State of Israel.
Our national security depends on the strength and readiness of our Armed Forces, as well as our law enforcement and first responders here at home. I am anxious to work on legislation that revitalizes our military and ensures our Armed Forces are prepared for the challenges of today and in the future. We must support our nation’s heroes not only during their tours of duty, but also as returning veterans. We must also stand by those in our communities who put their lives on the line each day to protect and serve their fellow neighbors. The sacrifices that these men and women make for our freedom demand they are cared for every step of the way.
In addition, I look forward to working on legislation that will bring real tax relief and regulatory reform to hard-working Nebraskans, our small and large businesses, and our agricultural industry. When the business and agricultural sectors thrive, more jobs are created and wages increase.
We must work to repeal the ACA and alleviate the crippling costs on businesses and families. In the new replacement for ACA, I will advocate for expanded healthcare choices, affordable premiums, and lower deductibles. Additionally, I am committed to making sure those with pre-existing conditions will retain coverage.
Finally, I applaud the President for his bold vision and for his message of national unity. I also look forward to working with this administration, and with congressional colleagues on both side of the aisle to renew our belief in America’s spirit so that we can guarantee our future generations the same opportunities that have been the hallmark of American greatness for over two centuries."
