Rep. Bacon's Independence Day Statement
Washington, DC,
July 1, 2017
— Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) issued the following statement today in honor of the July 4th holiday: "The Fourth of July is more than just an opportunity to get together with family and friends; it is an opportunity to reflect on our country’s proud history and honor the ideals and principles for which it stands. We also remember the courage of our Founding Fathers who essentially signed their death warrants if they were captured, when they declared their independence from the then strongest nation on earth. Ben Franklin said they had to hang together or hang separately. It’s a chance to recognize that freedom is not free, and the best way to defend our country is to be active and engaged as citizens. This holiday is a reminder of the courageous sacrifices made every day across the globe by the United States Armed Forces. I hope you will join me in celebrating the valor and achievements of our military, both past and present. Americans have never sat on the sidelines of liberty and we continue to remain a beacon of hope and freedom throughout the world. This weekend, as we gather to celebrate our nation’s independence, let us take a moment to reflect on the things that bind all Americans together – freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I wish you and your families a very happy and safe Independence Day." ### |
