Rep. Bacon Statement on End of Government Shutdown

Today, Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) released a statement following the passage of legislation to fund the government:

“I am happy that our two million men and women in uniform will receive a paycheck and the more than 21,000 children in the Second Congressional District who rely on CHIP will have continued coverage. We must now work on permanent funding for our military to ensure readiness of equipment and operations, as well as support for our men and women in uniform and their families.  I will continue to work with my House colleagues to find a comprehensive and permanent solution for our DACA youth, ensure our border is secure, and strengthen our immigration policies. The government shutdown could have been avoided, instead, Senate Democrats decided to play with the lives of our service members, CHIP recipients, and 800,000 federal employees. Bipartisan DACA and immigration reform discussions have been ongoing in both chambers for many months; there was no need to shut down the government.”
