OMAHA, NE- Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) released a statement following the announcement of Chinese tariffs on U.S. products including soybeans, beef, and corn:

“I am extremely concerned about the proposed Chinese tariffs on U.S. soybeans, beef, and corn. Nebraska’s agriculture economy, which exported $6.4 billion of commodities in 2016, is dependent on continued access to foreign markets. China is the single largest export market for agricultural commodities produced in Nebraska, and in 2016 represented almost $1.4 billion in value to the state largely consisting of soybeans, beef, and corn. Nebraska’s agriculture economy is the backbone of our state and if these proposed tariffs take effect they will have serious, damaging effects on the entire Nebraska economy. China is stealing our intellectual property through cyber theft and we must address the issue, but I urge the President to do so in a manner that protects Nebraska’s export markets.”
