Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) released the following statement on tariffs:

"Last July, I led a letter asking President Trump to exclude steel and aluminum imports from global tariffs or other trade restrictions. The steel and aluminum industries provide billions of dollars in economic activity and hindering these imports could negatively affect U.S. food processors and Nebraska’s ag economy. It is important to punish unfair trading partners such as China, but ensure we continue our healthy trade relationships with other countries as broad, global tariffs could harm America’s jobs and consumers, especially those in Nebraska. Yesterday I joined many of my Republican colleagues and sent a letter to the President asking him to reconsider his position, as global tariffs will make U.S. businesses less competitive and could cause unintended consequences for American consumers and manufacturers. Our agricultural exports will very likely be targeted for retaliation and the impact will be squarely felt in Nebraska."
