Washington – Rep. Don Bacon’s (R-NE-02) bipartisan bill H.R. 8621, Strengthening Tribal Families Act of 2024, was passed by the House of Representatives today as part of H.R. 9076, Protecting America’s Children by Strengthening Families Act, introduced by Reps. Darin LaHood and Danny Davis. H.R. 9076 delivers the most significant reforms to Title IV-B of the Social Security Act since 2008.

H.R. 8621 is cosponsored by Reps. Judy Chu (D-CA-28), Dan Kildee (D-MI-08), Tom Cole (R-OK-04), Sharice Davids (D-KS-03), and Mary Sattler Peltola (D-AL-01).

“The Strengthening Tribal Families Act of 2024 is a win for children in America,” said Rep. Bacon. “H.R. 8621 will help Native American children stay within their tribal cultures, as compliance with the Indian Children Welfare Act (ICWA) varies amongst states and has resulted in children being separated from their families and tribes. My bill requires the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide states with technical assistance to improve their ICWA implementation plans.”
