Bacon Issues Statement on ICC's Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant

Washington - Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) today issued a statement about the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision to issue arrest warrants for Prime Minster Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant:

"The International Criminal Court lost all legitimacy today when it unanimously issued two decisions rejecting challenges by the State of Israel brought under articles 18 and 19 of the Rome Statute and issued arrest warrants for Prime Minster Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant. The ICC was established to prosecute crimes such as genocide, yet Hamas has not been held responsible for the killing of 1200 people or the 101 Israeli hostages they are still holding. The issuance of an arrest warrant for deceased Hamas leader Mohammed Deif is not accountability; it is laughable. Hamas leadership has vowed to attack Israel again and again until it is destroyed, and they continue to abuse the Palestinian people by utilizing them as human shields in their operations against Israel.

"Furthermore, the ICC has taken the unprecedented step of not just issuing warrants for involvement in alleged crimes but of determining these crimes have been committed by Netanyahu and Gallant. They have crossed a line in the sovereignty of a democratic nation.

"Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023 without provocation, and Israel has responded accordingly. I will continue to stand by Israel and will support Measures to hold instead Hamas accountable for their degradation and the ICC for their flagrant abuse of power."
