Bacon and Carbajal Join Civility and Respect Caucus
Washington, DC,
July 12, 2018
Today, on the National Day of Civility, Congressmen Don Bacon (R-NE) and Salud Carbajal (D-CA) released a statement regarding their recent membership on the Civility and Respect Caucus: “The Civility and Respect Caucus is another example of this legislative body’s call for civility and bipartisanship,” said Rep. Bacon. “One of the most important parts of my job is to embrace debate with those I disagree with, but in a respectful manner. Too often, we hear of the hatred, partisanship, and vitriol in our nation rather than the substantive issues Democrats and Republicans work on together. My friend, Salud and I are from different parts of the country and sit on opposite sides of the aisle, but we come together to work on important issues like military readiness, immigration, and mental health issues. We learn from each other and while we don’t agree on everything, we disagree agreeably and we find common ground on issues that unite all Americans.” “We may disagree on some of the issues, but we can always agree that our country is strongest when we treat each other with respect and remember that there is more that unites us as Americans than divides us,” said Rep. Carbajal. “From working both in local government and now in Congress, I have always found that we get more done when we work across the aisle and seek common ground. Congressman Bacon and I have developed a strong bipartisan friendship, allowing us to work collaboratively and find common ground on issues like immigration, lowering healthcare costs, and supporting our servicemembers. As a member of the Civility and Respect Caucus, I will always strive to promote constructive debate in policy making.” |
