Reps. Bacon and Carbajal First to Complete Bipartisan Policy Center Exchange Visits

OMAHA, NE- Congressmen Don Bacon (NE-02) and Salud Carbajal (CA-24) were the first members of the 115th Congress to complete an exchange of visits to each other’s district through the Bipartisan Policy Center. Rep. Bacon visited the 24th district in California last week, while Rep. Carbajal visited the second district last May.

Both members have learned a lot from each other through this program and it has fostered greater bipartisanship and cooperative legislative efforts. They have worked together on six pieces of legislation and helped get each other’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Amendments included and passed in the last two NDAA’s.

On the trip to California, Rep. Bacon visited the premier Cybersecurity and Cyber-crime Forensics program at Cal Poly, the vibrant Agricultural Economy of San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles, the Morro Bay Estuary, Food Security and programs in Santa Barbara County, the premier Quantum Physics Research programs at UCSB, the Disaster Response and Recovery programs in the Thomas Wildfire and deadly landslides in Montecito, and the robust Public-Private Space Launch capabilities at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

“This exchange allowed Rep.Carbajal and I to learn about each other’s district, so we can better share ideas on legislation related to agriculture, defense, and other issues,” said Rep. Bacon. “It also strengthened our friendship, which is so vital to overcoming the vitriol we see today. If we can lead by example through our bipartisan working relationship, even when we disagree, we will accomplish more for the country.”
