First Lieutenant Travis Borchard with the Nebraska Army National Guard will join Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) on April 3, 2019 for a joint session of Congress, featuring His Excellency Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). A native of Gothenburg, Nebr., Borchard was awarded the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
In March 2019 Nebraska was devasted by a ‘bomb cyclone” storm that caused a major blizzard in the western part of the state, with heavy rain contributing to the massive flooding that has ravaged the eastern half. Borchard served on the Joint Operations Staff as Liaison for the 67th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. As the State Activity Duty response grew, he served as the Battalion’s, and then Brigade’s, Task Force Officer in Charge.
“First Lieutenant Borchard truly represents the ‘Nebraska Strong’ image we have seen throughout the devastation and recovery from the blizzard and floods of March 2019,”said Rep. Bacon.“I am thrilled he is able to join us for this momentous occasion as joint sessions of Congress are rare.”
Upon graduation from Gothenburg High School in 2006, Borchardt attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration in 2010. He coached football at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2009 and then served on staff with the University of Nebraska Lincoln’s football program until 2014. Borchard then enlisted into the Nebraska Army National Guard in December 2014, graduating from Basic Combat Training in April 2015. He currently serves as Platoon Leader, 1st Platoon, 1057th Military Police Company. First Lieutenant Borchardt resides in Hickman, Nebraska with his wife and three boys.
