Rep. Bacon Issues Statement on Criminal Justice Reform
Washington, DC,
December 20, 2018
Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed criminal justice reform today: "Over 95% of the prison population today will be released at some point in the future, to return home to their families and communities. However, the re-offense rate in America is far too high. We must work to keep people out of prison once they are out." "For this reason, I supported the FIRST STEP Act when it passed the House today. This legislation provides prisoners with programs proven to reduce re-offenses, fight against drug abuse, and makes positive reforms to Federal criminal sentencing laws. The FIRST STEP Act – which has support in the law enforcement community – gives those who are rehabilitated the tools they need to succeed in society, which makes our communities safer and helps taxpayers." |
