Bacon Releases Martin Luther King Jr. Day Statement

Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) today released the following statement in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

“Today we remember and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy he left behind. He dedicated his life to fighting for social justice and to live in a world that rejects prejudice, hate, and intolerance.

“One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech is, ‘I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’

“Our country has made tremendous strides in diversity and equality, but we still live in a world where we are quick to judge and slow to adapt. Some days we even turn our back on the Golden Rule, ‘Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.’ No matter your ethnicity, gender, class, or political affiliation, it is my dream and hope that we strive to treat others how we want to be treated, and lead with selflessness, humility, and fairness.

“As we begin a new year, I ask that we always remember Dr. King’s words and wisdom, and in moments of both hardship and success, may we work across the aisle and work toward the betterment of our country. Let us honor Dr. King not just today, but every day.”
