BACON STATEMENT ON YES VOTE FOR USPS
Washington,
August 22, 2020
BACON STATEMENT ON YES VOTE FOR USPS Washington, D.C. – Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) issued the following statement in regards to voting yes for the proposal to fund the United States Postal Service: “As the Commander at Ramstein, I was in charge of postal operations in all Europe supporting the military and much of the State Department. I know firsthand the importance of having a strong postal system. The U.S. Postal Service plays a critical role in our nation’s commerce and economy, and in delivering mail to all Americans, especially to those living in rural communities. Our nation’s seniors and veterans depend on it for communications and in getting their prescriptions filled. While the President should not have initially politicized the postal system in regards to mail ballots, neither should have Speaker Pelosi used this to scare monger and create a conspiracy where none exists. We should not politicize the postal system. While I have the utmost confidence in Nebraska’s elections, I know there are legitimate concerns in other states, but they have nothing to do with the postal system and everything to do with the rules and security of the elections determined at the state level. “This Bill was not perfect, but the critical role the postal service plays in our country and the fact the postal system will become insolvent next year led me to vote in support. I’ve had a long commitment to our USPS mission and the people it serves...our citizens!" ### |
