Office of Rep. Bacon Responds to Misleading Article By the Intercept

Omaha, Neb. – Congressman Don Bacon’s (NE-02) Communications Director, Danielle Jensen, released the following statement in regard to the misleading article released by The Intercept, concerning his use of Double Bogey Strategies for official communication pieces:

“We retained the services of a small minority-owned business to produce crisis communications in accordance with House Franking and Ethics, in order to share information related to the pandemic with constituents of the 2nd District. No taxpayer dollars were used for campaign-related activities. And the vendor offered the lowest, most competitive price. House Administration says it is an acceptable activity to use these types of vendors, and these materials were reviewed and approved by House Franking. This is yellow journalism.”

Furthermore, the House Committee Administration also released a statement:

“The official communications paid for by Rep. Bacon’s MRA funds were approved by the bipartisan Communications Standards Commission, were not campaign related, and did not break any rules. The member handbook, which governs members’ official spending, allows offices to contract with outside vendors to communicate on issues related to their official work,” said Ashley Phelps with the Committee on House Administration Minority Office.

It should be noted that according to the most recent comparative numbers from the last year, Rep. Bacon’s office was in the bottom 10 percent when it came to spending money on Franking among all Republican Member offices.  In addition, his total spending on Franking has been below average since he arrived in Congress. This information is all publicly attainable.
