Bacon Joins Senate and House Colleagues to Support National Guard, Capitol Police, and Afghan Partners Washington, DC – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) today voted for emergency appropriations for the National Guard, U.S. Capitol Security, assistance for Afghan partners, and other funding needs. Not only does this legislation reimburse the agencies who responded to the events on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol, it aids our partners in Afghanistan who worked alongside our military as translators and in other roles. “Our national defenders and first responders answered the call to protect our Capitol and we must in turn answer the call to make sure they are reimbursed so that critical operations are not canceled,” said Bacon. “This bill is straight-forward and addresses what is needed, without unnecessary additions and items that have zero relation to the matter at hand.” The bill fully reimburses the National Guard $521 million for costs incurred during the deployment at the Capitol, $106 million to the U.S. Capitol Police for operations, and $300 million to upgrade some security measures with the Capitol complex. It also provides funding to assist Afghan partners who assisted our military by providing funds for transportation, temporary housing, and transitional services. “This nation owes a debt of gratitude to our Afghan partners who worked alongside our military during operations to secure freedom in their home county and this funding will ensure their safety,” said Bacon. Not only does this bill support our National Guard, Capitol Police and Afghan partners, it is more fiscally responsible. “This clean legislation refunds the budgets of those agencies who protected our capitol and supports those who have aided our country, without bankrupting America’s wallets like the bill previously passed by the House,” added Bacon.
