Bacon Awarded AMVETS Silver Helmet Award

Omaha, Neb. – Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02) has been awarded the AMVETS Silver Helmet Award for exceptional service as a Member of Congress to the American people, principally veterans. AMVETS is a veteran’s service organization that has been representing veterans for more than 75 years.

“After national defense, I believe that Congress has no greater duty than to ensure that U.S. veterans and their families receive the care and benefits they have earned,” said Bacon. “I am humbled to be recognized with this award for my work on defense and veteran related legislation.”

Nominations for the Silver Helmet Awards originate with individual AMVETS members and AMVETS posts‚ and are endorsed by the respective state AMVETS honors and awards committees prior to the AMVETS national convention.

Past notable honorees include Gus Bilirakis in 2014 and Bob Dole in 1982 for their congressional leadership; and Norman Schwartzkopf in 1992 and Colin Powell in 1991 for their leadership in defense.
