Today Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 4760, the Securing America's Future Act. “Though this bill is not perfect, it would have been better than doing nothing. We must move forward on border security, protecting DACA youth, and updating our immigration system. This legislation provides necessary funding to enhance our border security, technology, and tactical infrastructure which is needed to uphold our immigration laws and support of law enforcement. Loopholes in our current immigration system allow those with bad intentions to enter our country. We address this issue by strengthening the credible fear standard to combat asylum fraud, ensuring all cities cooperate with federal law by including language from the House passed Sanctuary Cities legislation, and mandating the E-Verify program to ensure every employer follows the law. I am disappointed our legislative body could not pass this bill that would begin the process of reforming our nation’s immigration problem. We must pass immigration reform legislation. Tomorrow I hope my colleagues will join me in voting for the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act that will provide a permanent solution for our DACA youth, protect families at our border, and make enhancements to our border security.” |
