Today, Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) voted in favor of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, which would provide conditional green cards and work authorizations to immigrants who were brought illegally to the United States as children, as well as green cards and work authorizations to current recipients of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians:
 
“While this bill has bad flaws, I voted for it because we cannot continue to leave our DACA youth, as well as TPS and DED recipients in ‘no man’s land.’ For too many years, DACA and TPS have been addressed through presidential action. Congress has to take responsibility to force the legislative process. This bill, as is, will not become law and my hope is that the Senate will amend this bill to bolster our border security and fix our broken immigration system. Specifically, we need barriers where requested by the border patrol, more agents, strengthened e-verify, and a revamped system to process asylum seekers in a more efficient manner. I believe we can be compassionate to these individuals and responsible for the security of our borders at the same time. Congress needs to be able to compromise and improve our border security, find permanent pathway for DACA and TPS, and reform our immigration system. Since arriving in Congress, I have voted multiple times for a comprehensive approach to border security including a physical barrier, immigration reform, and a compassionate solution for DACA and TPS.”
